Product Description

RM18R Reverse Osmosis filtration system has now been upgraded to 4 stage with a 100% calcite pH correcting/ re-mineralising cartridge

Hyflux of Singapore have developed a slimline and compact but feature packed reverse osmosis system which makes the standard reverse osmosis systems look like they are missing parts or are budget models.

System features include:

  • Pre-carbon filtration (removes chlorine from water prior to the membrane to help extend the life of the membrane and maintain high rejection rates of impurities for longer)
  • Quality Dow Filmtec 100LPD membrane (we consider Dow membranes to be the best available on the market).
  • Inbuilt Totally disolved solids (TDS) meter which compares the quality of the water going into the membrane (feed water) to the water coming out (permeate/ pure water) and notifies the user via a LED at the base of the tap of any change in water quality.
  • Large 15 litre Reverse Osmosis storage tank.
  • Quality tap with ceramic seal and built in air gap (physical gap between waste water (in drain pipe) and the Reverse Osmosis system).
  • Built in filter change indicator on the base of the tap.
  • Slim line and compact design of the filter system.
  • 100% calcite pH correcting/ re-mineralising cartridge as the final polishing pH correcting and re-mineralising stage.
  • Automatic water shut off when changing filters (valves in system head will stop water from flowing out during a filter change).

How does it work?

  1. Firstly water is passed through carbon filtration which deals with sediments, chlorine, taste and odour (in medium to high sediment areas a pre-sediment filter may be required. Contact URWater if this is the case for your situation)
  2. A water quality reading (TDS reading) is taken at this point (feed water reading) to compare with pure TDS reading.
  3. Water then passes through the 100LPD Genuine Dow Filmtec membrane where the worlds most advanced water filtration process occurs and waste and pure portions of the water are seperated.
  4. Another water quality reading (TDS reading) is taken as the water leaves the membrane which is then compared with the incoming TDS reading and a rejection rate % is calculated. If rejection drops below 95% of the total impurities, you would be alerted via a red LED on the base of the tap when next you draw water from the tap.
  5. Water is then stored in the large 15 litre storage tank until needed.
  6. When the tap is turned on water then passes from the collection tank, through the final carbon filter cartridge or upgraded Volatile Organic Chemical reduction (VOC) cartridge to polish the water to further improve the taste.
  7. A final pH correction/ remineralising cartridge option can be installed prior to the tap to bring pH levels up to around pH8. Parts required for this upgrade are a pH filter and a pH filter installation kit .

What does it cost to maintain correctly?

With a pre-carbon filter and a post-carbon filter being the same make, it means that after 6 months you can simply take the first filter (pre-carbon) off and throw it in the bin, then take the third filter (post-carbon) off and put it in the place of the first cartridge. Then you put your new replacement carbon cartridge in as the third filter before flushing 10 litres out the tap and down the drain.  The reason you can do this is because the first carbon filter is dealing with all of the water (waste and pure portions) going into the system and retains many chemicals, sediments and bacteria. The third cartridge only has the pure water (not the waste portion) passed through it and only deals with very pure water meaning that it's hardly been used. A demonstration of this filter change is available on our Youtube link.

What about installation?

Installation of the RM18 requires a 36mm hole to be drilled/ cut into the sink which means unless you have the right tools to cut this hole, you may run into trouble and ruin the kitchen sink in the process. A 36mm hole cutter (not saw) can be purchased from some plumbing stores for around $110 to do a perfect cut. A hole saw will be mostly destroyed after cutting 1 hole in a stainless steel sink that is why we suggest the proper guillotine tool for the perfect cut and finish.

We provide all of the parts required to install the system into a standard kitchen sink (you'll have parts left over). This includes the essential 600KPA Wells certified pressure limiting/ back flow valve and stainless steel drain clamp, 1/2" brass tee, 1/2" double male nipples x 2, 1 x John Guest ball valve and elbow.

URWater are happy to provide customers with some (not hours) phone support if they wish to attempt the installation at no extra charge.

A standard installation would mean in the Brisbane/ Ipswich area, non stone benchtop, access to a dishwasher tap or flick mixer (for connection of water) and sufficient room under the sink or surrounding cupboards for the system. In most cases people have room and access to water. If you have a stone benchtop, there are still options don't worry. We have access to a very nice duel purpose tap which has an outlet for both standard tap water and a seperate outlet for filtered water. You simply replace the existing flickmixer and put this one in. Check it out.

A standard install can take between 1.5 and 2.5 hours to conduct the installation and testing and costs $110 including GST. If a plumber is required to access water pipes to connect the system to, you could expect them to charge as much as $160 for the install of a dishwasher tap under you sink. This is usually only the case in older homes where pipes cannot be seen under the kitchen sink.

If you have concerns about a filter system fitting under your sink please feel free to contact us to discuss possible options available to you before you make any decisions.

Please note: Photo showing RM18 kit doesn't show other included parts such as Pressure limiting valve, Brass Tee, brass 1/2" nipples x 2, Stainless steel drain clamp as these are added to the kit once it arrives at our workshop from Singapore. There are no extra parts you need to purchase for a standard installation.
